Block Exemption Regulations - What does it mean to you and your car?

In October 2003 European Union Legislation affecting the motor trade came into force. Its full title is 'Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002' (in short 'BER').

This legislation changes the way cars may be serviced and repaired and gives motorists a lot more freedom in their decision as to who should look after their cars.

Before BER, it was very difficult to have cars, which were still covered by the manufacturer's warranty, serviced anywhere except a franchised dealer.

Now motorists can use any garage of their choice to service their cars without invalidating the manufacturer's warranty.*

Using our new Unipart Direct Online database with VRM lookup, we have access to the manufacturers service schedules and lubrication recommendations for almost every car in the UK. When we carry out your service, we change only the parts that need replacing and you will receive a printed service schedule check sheet showing the items that are inspected or replaced, and a fully itemised invoice. Like the main dealer, we will use all the appropriate parts and the specified oils that your vehicle manufacture demands, so that your warranty will remain intact and your car will be in tip-top shape. Unlike the main dealer, we won’t replace all your brake discs and pads if they’re only half worn, nor will we charge you for screenwash fluid or sundries. We also won’t ‘invent’ unnecessary work for your car so our technicians can increase their ‘bonus hours’.
